The Ecogy Ethos

Ecogy’s goal is to create renewable energy solutions that are distributed, de-carbonized, digitized and democratized. Ultimately, we are working towards creating a global electric grid that is reliable, resilient, sustainable, affordable, secure, and flexible.

Ecogy Energy prioritizes equitable development over portfolio size, a mantra that began as an idea and transformed into a company-wide ideology, informing and directing project development, hiring, customer service, and partner choice.

Environmental Justice

Ecogy believes that a just renewable energy transition must address systemic inequality while simultaneously creating clean energy jobs and combating climate change. Our projects aim to serve disadvantaged communities, affordable housing communities, and LMI individuals.

Ecogy has developed over 26 projects that serve low-to-moderate income community members in 5 states, D.C., and the Caribbean. These projects range from affordable housing communities to senior living communities to housing authorities, but all revolve around the central mission of providing renewable energy access to the historically underserved.

In addition to developing projects that directly benefit LMI community members and disadvantaged communities, Ecogy has dedicated lobbyists. These lobbyists stay up-to-date with prospective legislation or renewable energy programs, participate in working groups including the Low Income VDER Working Group, and generate comments that advocate for LMI adoption of and access to solar.

Local Contributions

Ecogy partners with local electricians, arborists, landscapers, roofers, and pavers in order to maximize economic benefits for the local communities we serve.

Ecogy strives to uplift our clients by hosting ribbon cutting ceremonies with local officials and publishing press releases that shine a spotlight on our clients’ sustainability efforts.

Generation Dashboard

All-time generation:

63,910 MWh

Greenhouse Gas Equivalent:

  1. The carbon sequestered by roughly 53,600 acres of U.S. forest in one year

  2. The CO2 emissions avoided from almost 9,000 homes’ electric usage for one year

  3. Charging 5.5 billion phones to 100%

Sustainable Materials and Events

  1. Ecogy’s business cards are printed on recycled paper. There’s history in those cards.

  2. Our ribbon cutting ceremonies are run on 100% renewable energy. Batteries are hooked up to solar panels which feed TVs, microphones, speakers, and laptops.

  3. All uneaten meals from our ribbon cutting ceremonies are donated to local food shelters like the Martin Luther King Food Pantry in Newport, RI.

OSJL Woonsocket Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

This event was attended by Rhode Island State and local Officials, including Lt. Governor Sabina Matos, Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, Chris Kearns of the OER, and representatives from Sheldon Whitehouse’s office.

Sustainable Office

Due to COVID-19, Ecogy has not been completely in-person since late 2019. Ecogy follows a hybrid work model, meaning commutes to our workspace are limited which reduces daily transportation emissions.

However, when we were in office, we had an Econode connected to our electricity meter to find our baseline energy usage and work to decrease consumption, and our office was signed up to a community solar project in ConEdison.

The EcoNode and the Future of Energy Consumption Reporting

The EcoNode is Ecogy’s centralized energy monitoring system, created for commercial and industrial buildings to increase their energy visibility and reduce costs.

Energy monitoring helps drive sustainability and is a key resource in meeting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals and reporting requirements.

The first step to being able to report on your energy consumption is being able to create a baseline through highly accurate and granular monitoring.

Ecogy’s EcoNode and EcoSuite are helping companies recognize where they can cut down on energy use, not only helping them save on their electric bill, but also work towards ESG goals.
