Open Position: *Fall Intern* Policy Research Intern (Brooklyn, NY)

In this position you will analyse the current U.S. solar energy policy landscape with a focus on policy in the Northeast. You will keep track of the progress of relevant bills in the state legislature, analyse their impact on Ecogy’s business and their probability to passing, and suggest ways that Ecogy could influence the passing of the bill.

Open Position: *Fall Intern* Business Analyst Intern (Brooklyn, NY)

In this position you will aide the development of potential new projects and projects in the pipeline. You will contact potential clients and attain quotes from EPCs and solar system manufactures to support the development of the project. You will also analyse potential clients’ electricity bills, design solar system sketches, and work with a financial model to determine the viability of the business model.

This is a hands-on position that will require a high attention to detail, rigorous financial modeling and analysis, and accurate accounting. The successful candidate will possess a strong desire to support the growing finance and business development efforts for a growing company.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review and redline legal agreements such as PPA contracts, site lease, asset purchase, EPC and O&M agreements
  • Lead the financial analysis of potential and current projects
  • Manage financial transactions of project companies
  • Research federal and state photovoltaic incentive programs for incorporation into analyses and identification of new business opportunities

Ecogy is seeking a qualified Director of Engineering to join their Brooklyn office. This position seeks highly motivated and innovative individuals to work in an exciting and challenging environment where teamwork and communication are vital to the success of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the feasibility design and engineering of distributed generation solar photovoltaic projects throughout the United States, including rooftop, carport and ground mounted arrays (all 100kW and above)
  • Manage outside engineering firms and have frequent interaction with vendors and utility representatives
  • Responsible for all system design and energy production from feasibility to completion working closely with both the Business Development and Operations teams.
  • Be the technical expert for electrical and structural design aspects of the project to ensure engineering integrity, as well as successful approval processes with municipalities and utilities
  • Responsible for driving lost reduction by lowering material costs, improving energy production and decreasing labor time through continuous improvement in system design and process engineering
  • Perform construction inspections and commissioning to ensure equipment has been installed to plan. Act as Quality Control expert in conjunction with O&M department
  • Perform feasibility analysis including site evaluation - preliminary structural, electrical and geotechnical / utility evaluation, preliminary system layout & design, energy production, shading and component selection
  • Attend site evaluation visits to collect information required to complete the design of commercial-scale solar electric systems
  • Oversee the development of structural and electrical designs for net-metered roof, ground and parking canopy solar electric systems that meet all national, state and local code
  • Review design drawings showing the structural, electrical and site plan design of large scale solar electric systems developed in AutoCAD. Proficient in building and reviewing construction documents in AutoCAD and training team members
  • Manage the submission of drawings to the appropriate agency in order to obtain the necessary permits to allow for construction of large-scale solar electric systems
  • Provide technical input to support the interconnection application and utility approval process and related business development incentive processes
  • Create and/or review equipment specs created by consultants, with focus on AC equipment and interconnection equipment.
  • Assist Project Managers with coordination of utility company to ensure interconnection requirements are met, project deliverables are on schedule, and the utility company is on schedule to interconnect and energize the system
  • Perform construction inspections and commissioning to ensure equipment has been installed to plan. Act as Quality Control expert in conjunction with O&M department.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in an engineering capacity for a commercial photovoltaic company, or designing commercial distributed generation systems
  • A minimum 2 years experience in an engineering management role
  • Knowledgeable in standard applied codes such as the NEC
  • Expert knowledge of photovoltaic system design and optimizing system components for energy production
  • Expert knowledge of electrical and structural design components and manufacturers
  • Experienced in the use of energy modeling systems for photovoltaic applications and the variables/constraints related to energy production
  • Experience in value engineering of photovoltaic or other constructions projects
  • Good working knowledge of standard utility process for interconnection approval and design requirements.
  • Education:
    • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Other engineering disciplines are considered based on experience and skill set
    • Must be PE certified

Responsibilities: 

  • Draft, review, negotiate, amend and interpret power purchase agreements, site leases and equipment leases
  • Draft, review, negotiate, amend and interpret construction, tax equity and front- and back-leverage financing agreements and ancillary documents such as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements, asset management agreements, performance guarantees and solar renewable energy credit (SREC) agreements
  • Provide day-to-day legal support to the C&I sales, project development, project finance, asset management and operation and maintenance functions
  • Monitor legal and business developments in the solar industry, particularly with respect to the corporate procurement of renewables
  • Describe contractual relationships and legal issues to other departments, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, and upper management
  • Capture, organize, and disseminate legal knowledge within the legal department and the business unit; and
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside counsel

 Requirements:

  • 4 years of legal experience, preferably in the energy, project finance, construction, real estate and/or renewables industries
  • Ability to distill and communicate complex commercial and legal arrangements for the benefit of non-legal audiences
  • Prior experience working with solar, renewable energy or construction companies preferred but not required
  • Ability to quickly work through complicated legal issues and grasp complex business models
  • Strong analytical and problem-resolution skills; exceptional business judgment, with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice by balancing business needs with legal risks

  • Be responsible for the overall planning, procurement, organization, operations, execution and maintenance of all IT needs within the organization
  • Implement and update technology solutions that improve capabilities and efficiency while ensuring reliability and security. Range of oversight includes all network and telecom infrastructure, hardware, software, phones, reporting tools, and web platforms
  • Provide helpful data for management decision making by ensuring databases have quality data and assisting in the development of user reports
  • Lead company-wide application analysis. Map the current IT ecosystem, evaluate existing technology, conduct needs assessment, evaluate new systems, and recommend technical solutions to redefine the IT ecosystem

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of transaction processing systems and database structure and management is essential. Working knowledge of current database and development tools is important, especially SQL, HTML, web services and content management tools, SharePoint, Quickbase and Microsoft/Exchange platforms

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of solar energy projects through completion. This includes coordination with the utilities and townships, permitting, resource management, incentive management, contractor negotiation, and construction management
  • Manage relations with clients throughout the entire project, from contract signature until transition to our Asset Management team
  • Manage multiple solar projects simultaneously, meeting project needs on key dates and ensuring efficient movement of the job from sale to PTO
  • Manage the project cycle for Ecogy’s PV projects
  • Participate in design, process, and permit submittal
  • Oversee assigned field teams and installation progress
  • Develop and manage project budgets
  • Arrange, schedule and conduct key project meetings
  • Define elements of work and develop scope of work for subcontracts

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of PV Solar installation generally preferred
  • Knowledge of best practices commercial construction including sequence of work
  • Previous experience as a construction foreman or superintendent preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial PV installations, and wiring configurations
  • Knowledge of construction contracts, subcontracts, and the bid process
  • Ability to manage budgets and schedules
  • Experience managing multiple construction crews
  • Certifications: NABCEP • Education: BS/BA generally preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
